Barack’s 57 varieties [Mark Steyn]

I’m a foreigner in this here Corner so perhaps some of you natives could help me out: How many states does America have? There’s New Hampshire, California, West Virginia, South Virginia, Long Island, Guam, Dollywood… So what’s it all add up to? Barack Obama last month:

I’ve now campaigned in 47 states, actively. And I think South Dakota is the last state that I have not had a campaign event in.

Now that doesn’t mean that I expect that I will win all 50 — or 48 states and Alaska and Hawaii…

That’s right, isn’t it? As we observe the tenth anniversary of Frank Sinatra’s death, let us remember the words of Ol’ Blue Eyes:

We’ll travel roun’
From town to town
We’ll visit ev’ry state
And I’ll repeat
I love you sweet
In all the forty-eight…

But that was last month. Here’s this month’s state tally from Senator Obama:

I’ve now been in 57 states. One left to go.

Is Hillary tossing in new states just to prolong the nomination process? Or is Obama having McCainesque senior moments? The viciously partisan John Hinderaker wonders if the Senator can spell potato. Of course he can. He’s been to both North and South Idahoe.
